Background and Expertise

He is a business focused corporate psychologist. He is an author, thought leader and global expert on human capital with a deep and expansive knowledge of this subject. In his first career life, He worked as an engineer in senior management and consulting roles in the mining and resources sector. Then in the early 90’s, he made a mid-life career change to organisational psychology.

He is now the Managing Director of Advanced Workforce Strategies, a firm that provides consultancy services in the areas of the measurement and reporting of human capital, strategic workforce planning, workforce segmentation and configuration/modeling, workforce engagement and retention (including key talent) and organisational reviews.
His passion is aligning workforce and business strategies, and measuring, analyzing and reporting on key people measures. To that end, he has recently released his second book entitled “Aligning Workforce and Business Strategies: Mobilising the 21st Century Workforce”. In this book he integrates a number of human capital models, which are based on latest research, that takes strategic workforce planning to the next level of sophistication.

This holistic approach to strategic workforce planning includes a “cutting edge” skills’ based role analysis and workforce segmentation model, and associated questionnaire and plotting tool. This provides for a deeper understanding of the characteristics of roles and their classification (i.e., critical roles, “make” roles, “buy” roles, roles suitable for outsourcing), and the application of differentiated HR policies and practices to those roles.
He has also developed and commercialised a number of survey tools based on the concept of the psychological contract for application in the employer/employee domain (including engagement and quantification of retention risk of key talent), alliances in major infrastructure projects, and the OH&S domain.

He has presented to numerous conferences and workshops in Australia, the UK and South East Asia including such high profile organisations as the Corporate Research Forum (, the HR Society ( ), the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA), Key Media HR Summit Singapore.

Advanced Workforce Strategies’ client base extends from “blue chips” through to SMEs, including both the public and private sectors and overseas clients.
